How do I descale my Baristina machine?
When the Espresso & Lungo light blinks three times after making coffee with your Philips Baristina Espresso Machine it is time for descaling. Regular descaling ensures the best coffee temperature & flavor. Follow the steps below, on how to descale at home.
Descaling Philips Baristina Espresso Machine
Important note: Do not interrupt the descaling process once it has started. Please, keep in mind that this process can take up to 30 minutes.
When descaling your Philips Espresso Machine, you should use Philips Descaler only (Descaling solution CA6700).
Descaling Cycle:
To begin the descaling process, remove the drip tray and place a container that can hold at least 1.2 liters of liquid under the coffee spout. Next, pour half a bottle (125ml) of Philips' Descaler into the water tank. Fill up the water tank with fresh tap water. Before proceeding, ensure that there is no leftover coffee puck in the portafilter and keep clean portafilter in the machine. After that, press and hold the Espresso and Lungo buttons together for five seconds until the Espresso button starts blinking slowly and the Lungo button remains continuously on. The machine will then dispense the entire descaling solution at regular intervals, which may take up to 30 minutes. Once the Lungo button starts blinking quickly and the Espresso button is continuously on, the first phase of the descaling cycle is complete. Take out the container, empty it, and place it back under the portafilter dispensing spout.
Rinsing Cycle:
To initiate the rinsing cycle, first remove the water tank and wash it thoroughly under the tap.
Next, refill the tank with cold tap water and reattach it to the machine. To start the flushing cycle, press the blinking Lungo button. During the flushing cycle, the Lungo button will blink slowly while the Espresso button remains on continuously. Once the flushing cycle is complete, the lights in the buttons will turn off, indicating that the descaling procedure has been completed. After the descaling procedure has been completed rinse the watertank and portafilter.
I have error lights on my Baristina machine
If your Philips Baristina Espresso Machine is showing a blinking light, please refer below to find the causes and solutions.
The Espresso or Lungo button is blinking slowly
If the Espresso or Lungo button is blinking slowly after a drink selection, it means that the drink is selected and the portafilter handle can be moved to the right to start grinding. The Espresso or Lungo button will also blink while brewing.
The Espresso or Lungo button keeps blinking slowly after the portafilter is moved to the right and the machine does not start grinding.
The portafilter was not inserted completely while moving it to the right. Give the portafilter handle a little push to connect it well into the machine. The machine will start to grind the beans. Always make sure you insert the portafilter into the machine fully, until you hear a click.
The Intensity boost button is continuously on
The Intensity boost function is selected. The Intensity boost function can only be selected after activating a drink button.
The Espresso or Lungo button is blinking fast
If the Espresso or Lungo button is blinking fast while brewing coffee, it means the water container has emptied. In this case, refill the water container, place it back into the machine, and then press the button that is blinking quickly to continue the brewing process.
If the Espresso or Lungo button is blinking fast after refilling or placing back the water container, it means that the water container is not correctly in place. Make sure you push the water container into the housing of the machine until it clicks into place. Then press the fast-blinking drink button to start or continue the brewing process.
If the Espresso or Lungo button is blinking fast after the portafilter is automatically moved back it means that the portafilter is out of place. Give the the portafilter a little push and the machine will start to brew coffee.
If the Espresso or Lungo button is still blinking fast during or after grinding, and the handle is still in the grind position, it means that the water container was removed from the machine during grinding or was not placed back correctly. Make sure you place back the water container and push it into the housing of the machine until it clicks into place. The machine continues automatically the process.
Espresso and Lungo buttons both blink 3 times after brewing
If the Espresso & Lungo light blinks three times after brewing, it is time to descale your Philips Baristina Espresso Machine.
All buttons are blinking
This indicates that the machine is returning to the starting position. During this period, the portafilter cannot be removed. Wait until the LEDs stop blinking before removing it.
The Espresso button is blinking quickly and the Lungo button is on continuously.
This could mean that the portafilter is not inserted after the descaling process has started, and/or that the water container is not placed correctly:
Insert the portafilter and the descaling process will start.
Make sure the water container is properly placed back into the machine and press the Espresso button to continue.
The Intensity boost button is blinking quickly
The rinsing cycle or brewing with pre-ground coffee has started without the portafilter inserted. Insert the portafilter and the machine will begin the process.
The Espresso button is blinking and the Lungo button is on continuously
The machine is in the first rinsing phase of the descaling procedure.
The Espresso button is on continuously and the Lungo button is blinking slowly
The machine is in the rinsing phase of the descaling procedure.

How do I make a stronger cup of coffee?
My Philips Baristina Espresso Machine’s coffee is not strong enough
If your Philips Baristina Espresso Machine is brewing weak coffee, there could be several reasons. Check the possible causes and solutions below.
Select the intensity boost button
If the coffee tastes weak, use the Intensity Boost button to increase its strength after selecting a drink recipe.
Fill the bean container
Ensure the bean container is adequately filled with coffee beans. If there are not enough beans to grind, it will result in weaker coffee.
First-time use / New bean type
When using the machine for the first time, or when trying a different bean type, the dosing system that controls the amount of coffee needs to be adjusted. Brew one or two more cups of coffee to optimize the dosing system.
Note: Depending on the bean type/roast the strength of the coffee can differ. If you tried the solutions above, and the taste is still weak, we suggest you try a different coffee bean and/or roast.
How do I adjust the amount of coffee volume from my Baristina machine?

Where can I find parts and accessories for my Philips Baristina Espresso Machine?
My Philips Baristina milk frother doesn't froth properly
Your Philips Baristina milk frother always leaves a little milk behind after running, which can reduce the quality of your next froth. If this is not the case, check the other possible causes and solutions below.
The wire whisk is not attached
Make sure that the wire whisk is attached to the stem (see illustration below), as milk foam cannot be produced without it.
More milk is needed
Make sure you fill the milk carafe above the minimum level indicated on the inside to obtain quality milk foam.
Clean the milk frother
Clean your milk frother regularly to obtain optimum results. Bear in mind the following instructions for cleaning your milk frother:
1. Separate the metal whisk, stem and lid.
2. Rinse the milk jug under hot tap water.
3. Rinse the metal whisk, stem and lid in hot tap water or put all the parts in the dishwasher.
4. If necessary, wipe the base with a damp cloth.
Type of milk
The quantity and quality of the foam may vary depending on the type of milk used. For best results, we suggest you use one of the following types of milk:
1. Semi-skimmed cow's milk
2. Whole cow's milk
3. Lactose-free milk
4. Plant milk
Note that if you choose to use plant milk, it's important to make sure that the milk you select is specially formulated to produce milk foam in your cappuccinos, lattes and other milk drinks.
The milk frother needs to cool down
The on/off button on the Philips Baristina milk frother flashes to indicate that it needs to cool down before you can use it again. Allow it to cool for a few minutes. If you want to speed up the cooling process, you can rinse the inside of the milk jug with cold water.
If the on/off button continues to flash or the problem persists, contact us for help.
